Job Description:
Work involves a variety of project types, including but not limited to:

• Trip-generation estimates and traffic-impact studies
• Traffic-engineering/traffic-operations analysis including capacity and level of service analysis, vehicle queuing analysis, micro-simulation modeling, intersection traffic-control evaluation/warrants including traffic-signal warrant analysis
• Traffic engineering signing and marking plans/schematic design; traffic signing and pavement-marking analysis and design; analysis of auxiliary right- and left-turn lane needs
• Access planning/permitting and design assistance
• Traffic-signal progression analysis
• Use of/understanding of macroscopic/large-scale transportation models for extracting useful trip distribution, origin/destination data, and for modeling project scenarios
• Traffic-signal design
• Use of Highway Capacity Software, Synchro, and/or other traffic analysis software applications
• Traffic safety analysis including crash-data analysis, access evaluation, intersection sight-distance analysis etc.
• Traffic engineering waiver requests

We are also looking for a Transportation Planner in our Tahoe City Office

We are seeking a talented, self-motivated individual to join our team as a transportation planner working out of our Tahoe City office. This is a hybrid in-office/remote position with some flexibility in work hours and schedule. The best candidate would routinely work in the office in Tahoe City at least 3 days per week.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assist project managers in preparing short-range and long-range transit plans, as well as coordination plans for rural, tribal, and small urban transit systems, primarily in the Mountain West region.

  • Collect and evaluate multimodal transportation, transit, and land use data, particularly from the U.S. Census and American Community Survey.

  • Analyze and synthesize all types of data, including financial and demographic statistics.

  • Assist with the preparation of proposals.

  • Conduct virtual and in-person public outreach, including management of survey efforts on-site.

  • Research best planning practices and emerging topics related to transit and transportation.

  • This position requires some travel to various project locations.

Required Skills:

  • Proven ability to successfully work independently with limited supervision on multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Comfort working under periodic deadlines and ability to prioritize tasks in a time-efficient manner.

  • Skilled in research, data collection and analysis, statistics and the use of spreadsheets/databases, and data visualization.

  • Strong technical writing ability.

  • Preparation of charts, graphics, and other visuals for inclusion in planning documents and presentation materials.

  • Effectively communicates technical information to audiences orally and in writing.

  • Ability to work effectively and collaborate with agency staff, public officials, community stakeholders, and the general public.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel and Adobe Acrobat.

  • Knowledge of ArcGIS Pro is a plus.

Education and Experience Required:

  • A minimum of 0-5 years of relevant experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, public administration, geography, economics, STEM field or other related major.

  • Master’s degree in relevant field is preferred, however, recent college graduates are encouraged to apply!
